About

To most I’m called Sam Morris. Born and raised in the mountains of Virginia, I subsequently graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in chemical engineering. With work opportunities scarce in the region, Houston called as a land of opportunity.

After a stint working with drilling fluids in the oil field business, I moved on to the manufacture of chemicals. For the next 34 years I experienced the technical and management sides of the chlorine, caustic and PVC industries. I had the opportunity to work in exotic locales in Texas, Washington State, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and even in Alberta Province to the north. In 2008, rather than relocate yet again, I chose to retire.

With long commutes and even longer work days out of the picture, I had time to consider a story I had tumbled around in my head for years. Writing courses, books on writing, critique groups, seminars and lots of frustration later, “Coins on Franklin’s Grave” emerged. By then I had the bug, writing numerous short stories and, finally in 2020, publishing “Time Tested.”

I currently reside in southeast Pennsylvania with my lovely wife. As empty nesters, we are both on the staff of Skeeter, a rescued, tuxedo feline. During the pandemic, my days are consumed with writing, power walks, the basement gym, house projects, volunteer work, good beer and reading. During non-pandemic times we also travel a bit.
